Adding Side Trim

Post by rleazer »

I want to add side trim to my 72 Camper Special, I need hole locations for the clips. The previous owner remove the trim and welded the holes closed, I would have to remove a lot of paint to find the old locations, need some help.

The only ones that really matter, spacing wise, are first and last on each end. As long as the rest are evenly spaced they'll be fine. Check the LMC and DC catalogs, in the molding sections. They both have diagrams showing which clips go where and a rough idea of where. Reach behind the body panels and feel for weld beads. Most people don't bother grinding the back side down unless it's a concours restoration. There's a lot of forgiveness in locating the clips.

Thanks guys for the inputs, I think my best apporch will be the suggestion by Sarenters, its a logical coarse of action, just a side note for Sargenters, I lived in the Marrieta and Rockmart area as a kid, still have a former brouther-in -law that lives in the Ellijay area, not a Ford guy though.

I wouldn't mess with the plastic clips and just use more of the spring bolts. That's the route I went with on my truck. I didn't like the quality of the plastic clips.
