Hello, new member here from TN

Post by Bryan_Tenn »

This is a great forum that has been a wealth of info for mr since rescuing a 72 longbed a few months ago

I'm making a shop truck to pull my trailer & throw parts in the bed so I'm trying to do this on a small budget, not worrying so much about "pretty" as I am reliability.

I own a small engine shop & work on a lot of riding mowers, garden tractors, etc.. & want something I'm not afraid to get dirty or get a scratch on. This truck had been sitting for many years & I bought it from a guy who had bought it 3 months prior & got it running. I'm in the teardown process right now & this forum has been a lifesaver.

I used to restore first gen Mustangs back in the 90's & have kind of gotten out of the rhythm so alot is coming back to me on replacing sheetmetal, etc..

I will post some pics a little later & look forward to your input

THANKS AGAIN!

Bryan

it is really. I'm gonna put a DS floor pan in, I can do a little patchwork on the PS. Someone has put cab mounts over the existing ones & didnt weld or rivet tS one has some rust so once I cut the floor out, unbolt the mount, I can see whats what.

I have the bed & front clip off now & 302 & C4 out. Rear is a 9" with 3.50 gear. Engine has within 15% compression on each cylinder, so I'm really on the fence about what to do with the engine. I'm trying to do this on a shoestring budget & I can't justify doing $400 of machine work on an engine that runs good, has good compression, etc... when that $400 could go a long way on things that really need attention

I got a Performer intake for $75 & a 600 vacuum sec. Holley for $60 & I've got to get a thrott in the le plate kit with the ford kickdown for it, thats about $25. So theres $160 so far on the induction, a set of cheap flowtech headers are about $120, full gasket set $70, aluminum water pump $40, very mild cam & lifters, $110, elec. distributor $150, So what Im getting at is I don't want to have $1000+ in an engine, not for this project. I had $2500 invested in my Cleveland in a 70 Mach, but that was a show car, this is a shop truck & IM BROKE

I've put floorpans & patch panels in old mustangs before, but I have NEVER spread the first glob of body filler sooooo I'm gonna try my hand at some bodywork. Like I said, I'm not trying to make anything fancy, I want a reliable shop truck to haul mowers in, take to the flea market, haul scrap in, but just look cool doing it
