New owner of a 67 F-250 Camper Special

Post by Fall_of_Olympus »

Good day everyone!

Just wanting to stop in for right now to introduce myself. Let's just call me Nuge. The wife and I just purchased a 1967 F-250 Camper Special, and need to do an immense amount of work to it to get her back into a shape that isn't embarrassing and sad.

Luckily the engine itself is in decent enough shape. It's got a new carburetor on it that needs to be tuned, exhaust gaskets that need to be replaced, and probably a variety of seals and/or hoses that need to be replaced as well. The engine is a 352 V8 5.2L.

Cosmetically, there's a crap ton of work to do. The rust has rust. The frame, while rusty as hell, is in good shape from what we can tell so far. Haven't gotten up in it to start cleaning it just yet, but that's on top of the list. We fully expect to replace or patch a lot of the panels and sheet metal.

The tires and rims are well after market, but the rubber is basically brand new so we are going to keep them. We have the original rims, but the rubber is shot soooo they're just going to sit around until we figure out what to do with them. We need to add a 3" lift kit for clearance because the clown we bought it off of didn't bother so these 33" tires rub on turns. All in all for what we paid (more on that later) we got the truck for free and bought the wheels.

Originally he was asking $1,200 for it, but based on all the rust and the overall condition and amount of restoration etc. that needs to be done, we managed to talk him down to $750 (hence basically getting it for free based on the tires). It's going to be a long daunting project, but we are both excited to do this together.

Fun fact about the emblems. It has all of them. Except the bed isn't the original bed. It's a Sport Custom bed that started life as Holly Green. No idea what happened in this things history but something terrible must have happened to the bed lol. Either way, as long as the frame work on it is in decent shape, we plan to just replace the body panels with the appropriate ones and then do a wooden bed deck, you know.. .40 years from now.

Anyhow, I'll shut up now and post 500 photos of it's current condition. Enjoy!

Suggestions, advice, comments, and the like are all welcome!

Thanks. We've actually been all over that site looking for answers and such.

We've determined that the original owner probably had a horse farm. It came with a trailer brake controller that we removed.

My wife went as far as to break down the VIN too. It was built in June, in Michigan, and was a special order from Indiana that ended up in Florida lol.

If it is a special order truck I believe only about 10% where special order. If the Vin dso number is more than two numbers it is special order. that may explain the different box. It may have came with a different style box, no box or the camper style. depending on how someone ordered it. It may be worth the $40 to do a marti report and find out exactly what you have.

That's a fun little bit of info! Sadly, I misunderstood the wife. It was apparently DESTINED for Indianapolis, not special ordered. You know how it is... I only hear about half of what she says lol.

I'm probably going to climb under it tomorrow with a wire brush and start going at some of the easy to reach places. YAY!
