1969 Ford F250

Post by 1969 FORD F250 »

I own my Dad's 1969 Ford F250 he bought new. It was Arcadian Blue, 360 3 on tree with camper style gas tank. Is is worth getting it professionally painted or can I paint it myself since i have painting experience. Still need to remove small dents, fix a couple rust spots, etc. Also want a bed liner. Truck was garage kept and never driven in salt. 88,000 original miles. Any advice would be helpful. This is the first vehicle I learned to drive at age 12 and I had many old memories in the truck as a kid so I hate not to restore it right.

I wish I had dad's truck. I bought something close to it, but it doesn't hold quite the same nostalgia.

There is definitely some satisfaction in doing a thing yourself. I would say if you feel like your painting skills will do the truck justice, then definitely do it yourself. If you feel like you'll look at your imperfections, and wish you had hired a pro, then you should do that. :)

Keep us posted, regardless. ;)

I will paint it myself. I painted a 1977 VW Scirocco so it shouldn't be too hard. Color of truck was Sky View Blue. Now it is great primer. Slight rust eaten through on both fenders and a big dent on passenger rear quarter I don't know how to get out. It's been my work truck on property last 20 years so I have a few dents to fix. At 10 mpg I have held off for years. I have the antique tag already so with insurance I can drive it now.

Start a build thread in the Projects forum and go for it!
I know what you mean, though. I've been doing 58 hours a week at work, and doing a lot of work on the house, plus working on rust repair on the wife's '68 Plymouth Voyager. Have gotten absolutely NOTHING done on Frodo in 2015 so far. :(
