Hail and well met !!!!

Post by CharlaineC »

Hail and well met!!!!

My name is Charlaine I'm a 30 mumble mumble disabled and retired veteran from the Evergreen State of Washington. I live in Spokane county. I served three tours of duty in Iraq. I love to fly fish, Model rocketry. Hike, camp, hunt, build things, garden and many other hobbies. I recently bought an 1969 Ford f250 Camper Special 360 5.9 v8 with the Ford C6 transmission. The name given by her very first owner is Pearl. So like the tradition of the sea she will keep her name. (I don't want the bad JUJU!!!) I bought her knowing she had some issues. Many from the complete lack of common sense of the po or his stupidity not sure which. So far with the help of the Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums as well as This forum I have already learned about what some of the issues I'm having are and how to fix them. The list of issues and what I've fixed so are listed below. I'm also going to be asking a lot of questions. As I work to restore her.

  • no oil( no really none zip nadda) the dang gum dran plug was loose and most leaked out. she took 5.5 quarts to fill to the right lvl
tranny fluid near empty causing hard shifting
    cluster needed the ICR replaced.
Fuel Gauge selector switch needed to be cleaned and re-lubed
    horns need to be replaced
    mirrors are mismatched
    headliner shot
    carb is out of whack
suspect the need to replace timing chain
rear view mirror was missing the arm
exhaust manifolds need new gaskets and studs
    Wipers had never been replaced
Plug wires where 45 years old and shot. Caused a fire as i was going to get new ones.
    Both Pcv valved where shot.
Wiper res useless and in need for replacement.
and a bunch of other little things.

Since getting her I have
  • Replaced the Icr
touched up the gauges and needles as well as readied to add new faces to the gauges.
    Oil change and filter
replaced main and aux fule lines and added inline filters.
    replaced pcv valves and elbow
    replaced the cluster bezel
cleaned and relubed the tank gauge selector switch
replaced some of the little missing parts
found a second set of tires for summer
    replaced wireset and cap
    new wiper blades
going to be matching the mirrors
C6 tranny filter and gasket replaced
    all fuses replaced
    Newer arm rests

:wel: from the SF Bay area! It looks like you've already done a ton! When you're ready for a headliner, I recommend Dennis Carpenter, mostly because they have flat rate shipping, and the other sources out there want $100 to ship a $115 item. I haven't installed mine yet; that project is coming soon. :)

There are a lot of great folks here, and a TON of knowledge. Just be careful, if you have any OCD tendencies, you'll soon find yourself prepping for a frame-off restoration, shopping for a welder, paint gun, and compressor.

Keep us updated on your progress and don't forget the pictures!

Cheers,
Duane

From the mottled appearance, and the color inside the cab, it looks like she was originally (Pearl) white, and was painted yellow on the outside. Is that about right? She's definitely screaming "PAINT ME!" If you're painting at some point, what color are you thinking? How rusty are your cab mounts, floor pans, cab corners, and drip rails? :)

Cheers,
Duane

Thank you everyone. It means so much to me. As for her original paint colour the vin plate states Pebble Beige, but i'm planning on having her painted to match my Pearl coloured purse. with pearled pink or pearled black two tone. the cab mounts i'm not sure about as of yet. I need to find them first. The drip channels are in good shape but need a good cleaning. my floor pans are in great shape.the cab corners seam to be in good shape.
i'm planning to replace the headliner and door trim panels with stained wood to match the cluster and soon to match the instruments. adding a hi mount for my cb radio and then plan installing one of the newer radios for her.
