New Owner of 1968 F100
Hello All,
As I was leaving my Father's Memorial on 09/12/2014 I was shocked to see a 1968 with a for sale sign in the drive way across the street. The reason that this is the way I am starting off my introduction is due to the fact that while my Father was cohearant and hospitalized we spent many hours discussing my finding a work truck.
Although it is still too painful to get into the details of the loss of my HERO. I bought the truck for $400 and am currently getting my brother's to help me get it up and running. I have done a basic inspection and I am getting the engine to "want to turn over" but not actual starting.
Things that I know that I need to check are:
Spark plugs - what kind? I know that the gap is .035 but I am not sure what kind to buy.
Cap and Rotor - any brand suggestions?
The transmission fluid is clean.
The oil is dark but not cloudy.
The truck has been sitting for over a year and a half without being started or moved. There are no signs of oil /fluid leakage on the driveway upon which it sits.
Any information that anyone can share is greatly appreciated.
I am a novice at mechanics because my Dad always took care of his little girls vehicles. I am hoping to utilize this truck as a memorial to my Dad (hence the handle Keeping a Candle Lit) and learning how to do basic mechanics on my own.
Thank you

Re: New Owner of 1968 F100
Change the oil and filter before running the engine, motor oil that is in an engine that has been run and then left to sit becomes acidic.
If you can afford it get an Optima battery (the red top) they are sealed and since no acid vapor comes out the terminals and clamps do not corrode only oxidize slightly from air.
A rough idea of your budget for the truck would help us to give better advice.

Thank you sykanrOng and Mancar1.
My budget for the truck is low right now but I am planning on doing everything I can bit by bit. Eventually I want to restore it to its original glory
I am copying and pasting my questions to the engine section right now.
