Steering Column with No shifter???

Post by IN2FORD »

My truck will end up with a 5 or 6 speed in it so I am going to need a column without a shifter. But it does not seem that there were no columns built without a shifter. What's my option??

The 4 speed trucks were all floor shift and had no column shifter.

In later models the 4 speed and 5 speed manual transmissions are not column shift either.

Look for a donor truck that started out with a more than 3 speed manual transmission.

I don't see where this was 100% confirmed but I think the Mustang shift collar will work in our trucks. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =5&t=74516 Also check with BroncoGraveyard as mentioned in the thread. Bronco's came with floor shift and smooth columns too.

Where are you located, I have a power steering column from a 70 that has no hole in the shift collar (floor shift).

I am located in TN. Willing to ship? Not sure what it would cost.

Is your truck manual or power steering. The lengths of the steering shaft vary depending, from what I'm told. I could not find a floor shift manual steering column for mine. So I had to improvise. Just make sure you verify column lengths before laying down cash.

This is the "add power steering" tech article, but it has the differences in the columns noted with pictures that you want to be aware of... http://www.fordification.com/tech/powersteering.htm

The paige Keith made for the power steering swap is very well done. I took the power steering out of my 67 and put it on my 65 and had no isues what so ever due to his write up. Thanks Keith!!
