bumper hitch on bumps?
bumper hitch? I was given a hitch and told it came off a 68 ford truck and just bolted to the bumper. i dont really see this working on my 69 as the mounting bracket wouldnt be flush on bottom of bumper. Did this require a special bumper? What kind of towing capacity could be expected? Ive never see one on these trucks. Was it a factory peice or aftermarket?

Re: bumper hitch on bumps?
My '73 F100 has a bumper hitch. Well, it's not a receiver hitch and it mounts under the bumper.

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in garages. (Apologies to Kenneth Grahame.)

Re: bumper hitch on bumps?
My 69 has always had a bumper hitch. It had the optional step bumper. My new bumper from LMC truck is designed to have a trailer hitch installed right on the bumper. Maybe its just me but I don't trust this as much as the receiver style.

Re: bumper hitch on bumps?
I got rear-ended, and with no significant damage to the bumper, they sheared the bolts off that mounted it to the frame. I replaced the bolts, but it makes me wonder what the capacity of that hitch hanging off the bumper is. It seems like it can't be as much as the thicker receiver style hitches that mount directly to the frame.
Then again, my F100 is only a 3/4 ton truck with more worn out bits than fresh ones. What am I expecting to tow?
Cheers,
Duane

bolts to the frame? where? all I was given was the bracket with a 2 inch ball on it. The back side of hitch does have a bolt hole on it but how does it mount?

Re: bumper hitch on bumps?
haha sorry. The bumper bolts to the frame. The hitch goes through my bumper with a nut on the bottom.
Sorry for the confusion.

Your F100 is a 3/4 ton. Did you put your F100 body on a 3/4 ton undercarriage?duaneo wrote:I got rear-ended, and with no significant damage to the bumper, they sheared the bolts off that mounted it to the frame.
