New Member from 'Down Under'

Post by Dave 64 »

Hi All,

Just a quick line to say G'Day from a new member, but have been following some posts for a while as a guest.

Have an Oz assembled 1968 F350 (stock 135"WB, 240 in-Line, NP435, Dana 70) which is just about a basket case as far as the cabin rust is concerened, but mechanicals are reasonably sound.

Currently trying to sort out what is worth saving for either a future project/rebuild. So from time to time may ask for a few clues from you knowledgable blokes out there. Although they are getting a bit scarce over here (Australia) nowadays, there are still bits and pieces around, but we don't have the access that you guys have to the massive aftermarket .

Cheers, Dave (Central Vic.)

welcome aboard mate!

LMC and Dennis Carpenter should both have the ability to ship out to you. Not sure how different your aussie trucks are from ours in the states though? Brazil produced the bump bodies well into the 90s, so theres a ton of stuff available for them over there too.

Good luck, and ask away!

Thanks, dbarker!

As a general rule of thumb from what I've sussed out, we were about 12-18 months behind you blokes in getting new models. I asked on another forum about 6 stud X 7 1/4" Ford F350 wheels, which we were still using (so I've been told) until 1969, you guys had already gone to the later 8 stud.

A lot of our F truck stuff arrived in CKD state, I know that my old girl and quite a few others were assembled from left over parts at the Broadmeadows Ford factory. Mine had the 240 rebuilt in the mid 90's by an aftermarket machine shop and still goes like a clock, albeit in another project. We also seemed to utilise the NP435 4 speed box in that era moreso than the Warner T18/T98. I ended up buying a spare for the princely sum of 35 dollars, thought it was worth it just for the bellhousing alone, came from behind a V8. Bloke I got it off said if I had of been quicker off the mark, I could have had a spare 300 engine as well. He got sick of advertising it and his missus asking him to clean the yard up, so he virtually gave it to the scrap yard just to get rid of it!

Another mate from interstate has a 1967 F350 which has some strange wheel adaptation which utilises an 8 stud hub, but takes the same 6stud rim as mine. Must have been another case of using up old stock.

Cheers, Dave.
