pumping brakes ?
ok guys, time to put ur heads together and think, ,, on my 1970 f250 2wd,, i just bought a new mastercylinder, and installed it, thinking that after i got everything all bled, and done, that i wouldnt have to pump my[manual] brakes to get them to work,, but i thought wrong,, i still have to pump them, and besides being a safety issue, its just annoying, and i cant figure it out. its not leakin any where , so im at a loss of ideas.. thanks _ jeff

re: pumping brakes ?
You definitely have some air somewhere. Did you bench-bleed the master cylinder prior to installing it? If not, you could have some air trapped inside.

re: pumping brakes ?
yes, keith, i bench bled my MC till there was no air in it, and i bled all the whel bleeders, farthest to closest, and no chenge in the braking, when my MC cover is off, and i apply the brakes it will even push a squirt of brake fluid up and out of the cylinder's open top ? so idk whats goin on?

re: pumping brakes ?
I agree, I still think it's just air in the system. I've worked on vehicles that gave me fits trying to bleed them out completely, but it needs to be done. One thing I might suggest is to use a different color of brake fluid for this. Many types of brake fluids are offered in multiple colors (amber and blue). Each time you bleed the brakes you use the alternate color and just keep bleeding each corner until you see the new color fluid.

re: pumping brakes ?
yes, i had 2 people when i bled the brakes,, ,, i opened the bleeder, and then my helper pushed the pedal, and held it, and then i tightened the bleeder, and repeated and repeated. still to no avail,, fluid comes out and no air bubbles,, so i wonder whats goin on,,, and with the MC, its almost like the fluid would rather come into the resivoir until about halfway, then it starts to "work" , if you could call it that ... _ jeff

one thing a napa guy told me is to replace the rubber lines, because they wear from the inside out, there fore creaing more space in the tube, so the fluid is less pressurised. just a thought

re: pumping brakes ?
hey guys I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!, all it was was that when i left off the brake pedal, the piston in the master cylinder was going farther back then it should have been, so i set the pedal so it will only come up so far, and now my brakes work perfectly fine!!! im soo happy, and it makes driving my truck soo much easier/enjoyable. So now all i have to do, is bleed the brakes once more, and all is well
