Prices to paint a truck?

Post by straight-shot »

I am doing a frame off rebuild (not restoration) on my truck and I'm about ready for paint. I am gutting the cab and want to repaint the interior of the cab as well as the outside and under the body and box. I will be welding in trim holes and such and welding in some cab corners.
The body is very nice with no rust through on the front fenders, floor or box. There are a few small dings here and there but very little. On a 1 to 10 scale I would say it is a 8 with only minor surface rust and minor dings.

My question is: How much should I expect to pay for a nice basic paint job with standard paint?

Just a ballpark is all I am looking for. I talked to one body shop today and they said they wouldn't give an estimate they would just have to get into it and would charge by the hour for the body work and paint.

Thanks in advance!

Out here in Northern Ca. I have talked to several body shop owners and the price for a paint job is $5,000 to $8,000. Course a basic scuff and shoot at Maco is around $500 to $750. Do you want custom or a ok looking paint job? Just depends on what you want.
I would never turn over my Truck to a shop that wouldn't look it over and tell me a price. If you do hold on to your wallut. Just my opinion.

I will add that in 1996 I had Maco paint my Dad's 78 Chevy truck for $600 and when I sold it for Mom, after Dad passed, in 2008 that paint job still looked good. Course Dad babied that truck. :)

Just for comparison purposes, I had my Crew Cab quoted from different shops 2 years ago for complete paint in and out with very minimal body work. The prices I was quoted were between $7500 and $11000. These were for quality paint jobs, not your $1000 specials that come off in a year. I ended up striking a deal with a father/son shop who's work I have seen for $5000. But the agreement was that they could take their time and work on the truck when they were not busy with full paying jobs. They took my truck down to bare metal and did it right, but my truck was gone for 16 months. I was fine with that though for the quality of the paint job and body work I got for $5000.

Again, my truck is a long bed and the cab is 3 feet longer than your truck, so your quotes should not be as high, but still... It isn't cheap if you want it professionally done and done right. :2cents:
