another casting number question

Post by my367s »

This may be a question thats been answered but anyway in a previous post someone mentioned that the heads with a C8AE-H casting # were a good or better head.Is this correct ? Also I have a 4 barrel intake which has an S by the casting # (C7AE-H) and I was told that the S means it was a higher performance manifold.Has anyone heard of this? Thanks Jerry :?

If you use the C8 heads you will need to get hard seats installed. Ford didn't put them in until the D2 series I think. I couldn't tell you anything about flow but Ford didn't have many options there. Mostly just the garden variety and the high performance variations from the early 406, the 427 and 428.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

The C8AE-H head is good head. Put some hardened seats on the exhaust side and replace the valves from 2.04-2.05 intakes to 2.090 and 1.55 exhausts to 1.66. A little bowl blending, port matching and you have a really good street head. They have small combustion chambers approximately 67 cc's. Compared to 72-74 for your run of the mill FE heads. So you bring up some compression if you were ever a little bit down in that department. From what I know the "S" intake is a 67 piece from the 67 Gt 390 mustangs. I have used one in the past with a 600 holley on a mild 360 and it worked just fine from idle to 5500 rpm.I would still get a performer over this 90lb hunk though. If money permits. Bruce.
