Hood molding question

Post by shortbedCUSTOM »

Putting this topic here because it doesn't seem to fit anywhere else.

I have a few questions concerning the hood molding that LMC lists only for 70-72 trucks. I know I've seen 67-69 trucks sporting this molding. Is there a different place to source this item for my '68, or do I have to find a used one specific to my model year?

My understanding is that the 67-69 trucks didn't have this trim. The early trucks that you've seen with it were likely sporting a later hood...

Any thoughts as to why it wouldn't work on mine?

If you have a 67-69 hood, there will be no holes to mount the molding to. The 70-72 hoods had the holes for the molding. Up to you if you want to run it or not. The molding goes very well with the 70-72 style grilles, but just does not look right with the 67-69 grilles in some peoples opinions. There are some trucks around running the molding with the earlier grilles and I am sure you can find pictures if you want to better base your decision on. Its a matter of personal taste so completely up to you.

If you have a 67-69 hood and are looking to run the molding, then you might have some good luck with swapping hoods with someone who has the later hood. I know there are people out there trying to get the earlier hoods without the holes because they want to run an earlier grille without the molding. Might want to look at doing that before drilling holes in a good 67-69 hood. :2cents:

On a side note, the 67-69 hoods run different style and size FORD letters on the hood than the 70-72. So if you swap hoods, you will also be swapping letter styles.

OK, if you decide to install the molding on a 67-69 hood, is there a template or something to know where to drill the holes? I have a 67 F250 and a spare 3-piece hood molding. Saw a pic of another 67 with hood molding, and it looked pretty good. I don't want to drill more holes than necessary, though, and want to make sure it lines up correctly. I don't want to swap hoods because my truck has all the original sheetmetal, even paint.
Anyone have advice?

Thanks!
