Hello from Portland
Hello everyone,
I've been lurking for a little while, so I figured it was time to come out of the shadows & say hello (see above).
One of the stupidest things I ever did was when I was 19, I got rid of my 1969 F250. Fast forward about twenty-five years and I have undone this. In September I bought a 1968 F100 which is in quite good shape (see below)
Admittedly this is partly nostalgia for the vehicle I learned to drive in, but I also justified it with the need for a functional vehicle to haul stuff in: Yard debris, college-aged-kids' furniture... You know, the old "we just need a truck" argument. That, and I built up expectations of price by looking at new trucks first. For less than $2k, it made a lot of sense compared tot the price of a new rig.
Driving it brings a smile to the face of everyone in the family, even my wife. She complains she needs a stepladder to get in, but hey, she insists on driving it once in a while. Can't go too far wrong.
I'm starting on the restoration - mostly conservation - now. I'm the second owner. The PO kept it covered a lot of the time and had a camper on the back, so the condition is pretty good. Minor rust, a few places need touch up paint. The tailgate was stored for it's whole life, so it is excellent except the end which rested on the ground, which is horribly rusted. The brakes are antique, so I'll probably upgrade these so I can stop in traffic without having to leave a mile in front of me.

Re: Hello from Portland
Thanks everyone!
Sargentrs, well preserved is a good description. This truck is in better shape at that age than I was The dash pad is even intact. My task now is to conserve what there is, maybe make a few improvements (like brakes), but I like the historic look of this truck. Every time I have it out for more than a few minutes, somebody compliments it or gives a thumbs up.
