Detroit Checking In
Hey Guys,
I have been lurking/creeping/trolling your site for a few months and digesting as much info as i could. This Monday I finally committed to joining your ranks. I grabbed a '72 f102 XLT Ranger with the fe360 and automatic. Solid 83,000 mile truck that orginally came from Tennesse and that has been spared Detroit winters for the last 12 years. Surprisingly, the two front cab mounts were not spared, but already have the replacement patches on their way. Other than that runs well (aside from normal necessary maintence issues). Excited to dig in. Thank you for the resource and thanks in advance for all my Grom questions that will be coming your way. Possibly, wrong forum, but powersteering seems to snag at 1/4 turn to right then binds but releases if continuous pressure applied. Is this a separate power steering issue entirely, or could it be related to the the settling cab possibly binding on the shaft to to the blownout cab mounts and cab tilt ? Hopeful that the cab fix will ameliorate the issue. #keepontruckin'

Re: Detroit Checking In
from Georgia! Nice truck. Sounds like what you mentioned. Sagging cab mount is probably causing the steering to bind at a certain point. Might want to check your lower column bearing while you're replacing the cab mounts.

Re: Detroit Checking In
Thanks for the warm welcomes. I have a number of items in the mail, including new cab mounts and plates. In the interim, I tried an old "farmer's remedy". I jacked the cab slightly and slid 1 portion of 1x8 plank between the cab and the frame in order to withdraw the portion of the mounting bushing that had been driven up into the cab due to the rust rot. Took it around the block; voila. No more binding. *sigh of relief* phew *wiping brow*.
