I just got myself a 1971 F100 longbed. It appears to have the original 302 v8 in it. It has three on the tree shifting. The engine and transmission seem to work well but aside from that she's really in very rough condition. Right now I am trying to get her to pass Texas' chapter 4 inspection. I replaced the old dry rotted seatbelts and the license plate illumination. All the other lights (for the inspection) seem to work except for the reverse lights. I need to get those working so that I can pass inspection.

The body (especially the cab) is loaded with rot. I just noticed today that the top of the cab had been repaired with fiberglass at one point..but that repair is in bad shape now.

I just received my side marker lights in the mail from C&G. I didn't realize that they didn't come with sockets! Now I need to place another order so I can get the light sockets for my new side markers.

Who have you guys found to be the best places to order parts from?

from Georgia! For mechanical parts, try your local parts store first. It's amazing how much is still "off the shelf". Harder to find mechanical parts can be had at RockAuto.com. For "bump specific" items, the big 3 (DC, NPD and LMC) have the largest selection. If it can't be found there try Miller Obsolete http://millerobsoleteparts.net/ or Green Sales http://www.greensalescompany.com/ or the other vendors on the links page http://www.fordification.com/links.htm I've bought from both Miller and Green and they're good people.

Welcome! Sounds like maybe you should start keeping an eye out for a good cab, and just swap yours out. Sometimes that's the easiest and cheapest thing to do.

You don't need backup lights to pass inspection in Texas, and I didn't think they checked emissions prior to 1982 models(classics).

9. Safety Guards or Flaps (if four tires or more on rearmost axle)

11. Exhaust Emission System (beginning with 1968 models)
12. Beam Indicator (beginning with 1948 models)
13. Tail Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier
14. Stop Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier
15. License Plate Lamp (1)
16. Rear Red Reflectors (2)
17. Turn Signal Lamps (beginning with 1960 models) (mea-sure if 1959 model or earlier)
18. Head Lamps (2)
19. Motor, Serial, or Vehicle Identification Number
