Hello from Seattle
Hello- obviously new here. I am looking at buying a 1969 F100, I am hoping someone can lend some insight on what to look for when I look over the car. It sounds like a legit truck, 2nd owner, only 80K miles on it (almost seems too good to be true). The vin is f10yrf5XXXX. Is there anything in particular that I should look for? what generally goes bad?
I appreciate any help

Re: Hello from Seattle
to the family from Texas..I would be very skeptical of any 40-plus year old vehicle that claims to only have 80,000 miles on it.. be aware that after 99,999 miles these old vehicles go back to zero.. Look at the brake pedal and or clutch pedal,. so they look like fairly good factory rubber on them..Then look at the rubber of the suspension and steering... Now sense your in the North you know how rusty a vehicle can get from the salt they throw down on the snow/ice.. Pay good attention to the rocker panel behind the front tires they get all the cancer/rust.. As for what goes out on these old trucks,, well like I said they are 40 something years old so there is no way to tell what is on the verge of failing.. there is my ... good luck...
If your worried about fuel prices a Big Block Ford is not for you...

Re: Hello from Seattle
My 70 F250 Camper Special only had 37K on it when I bought it in '95...with a huge camper on it, they simply didn't drive or camp much. All the paperwork matched up with dates/mileage, so I know it's legit, and I have only put another 60K on it in the last 20 years myself. Check any paperwork/tire receipts/oil change/repair receipts for mileage numbers. Grab it, I say..and welcome!

from Georgia! Be sure and take a look at the cab mounts for the rust monster. It's pretty much a given that the floor pans may need replacing especially if it has the full width rubber floor covering. They tend to trap moisture. Also look at the seam across the front of the firewall and the drip rails where they meet the cab. That's the worst places for rust to eat it's way through. Look for water stains around the outer edges of the headliner.
