Hi from north wales!

Post by kevfromwales »

Hi guys - newbie signing in!

I'm kev, from north wales - over here in the united kingdom

got a pretty serious old car problem, plenty of old crap cluttering up the place, 61 f100, deuce roadster project, ford anglia and prefect, and some other chod - and the newest addition to the fleet is a 1969 ford f250 pickup truck

bought it over good old ebay, without seeing it in person, so when I went to collect it I was a bit worried - thankfully it's a lot better than I hoped! Originally it was a 360cu in, 4 speed equipped truck, imported from the usa to here in 1977, and at some point in it's life it's had the v8 replaced with a 3.3 litre 4 cylinder perkins diesel, with a 4 speed stick shift

Image

body has had some repairs, but it's solid, frame is never welded, and it has the 8 stud axles, with drums all round - not road legal just yet, has t go through an inspection, for which it needs a parking brake cable, and the horn needs connecting - might well be more though!

Image

the pickup bed is homemade by the previous owner - mostly out of aluminium!

looks like this forum should be able to help me out with the info I need - first thing to sort out is a cable for the parking brake - I think I've sourced one from LMC truck parts - $110 + shipping though!

cheers! - kev

That is a great looking truck! Sounds like you have a pretty good garage going! Would love to see pics of your other projects when you have time :D

:wel: from Texas! :fr:

You have a nice looking pickup and its neat to see these trucks in other contries. I am curious it is left hand or right hand drive?

As for you park brake cable, there are a few places to get a new one like LMC, national parts depot, or dennis caprenter. You can also post an ad in our parts wanted section: http://www.fordification.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=13 Since you have a 2wd truck you should have a fairly easy time finding the cable you need.

kevfromwales,
:wel: from Bartow, Florida. Which cable do you need? The long one from the cab back to the other two or one of the shorter ones that tie into the backing plates? I'm asking because maybe someone here has a used one if you're interested?
Maybe post a "wanted" ad here:

thanks for the warm welcome guys!

freakyfords - I'd say go for it - the perkins seems to be a real stump puller, plenty of neighbour annoying diesel smoke on startup too!!

basketcase - it's the cable from the cab to the 2 cables - I'll get a wanted ad in now (and cool that you've seen wales from a sub - we're right on the coast too!)

here's a few pics of the rest of the junk we've got up here - thanks for all the tech help!

f100

Image

- on the road home from collecting it, gearbox blew leaving me with a th350 with just reverse!
truck has a camaro clip, 350 pontiac v8, 10 bolt back axle - now being rebuilt with lots of new metal and a 4 speed muncie eventually

Image

and weirdly I don't have many shots of the 32, here it is on the trailer (didn't have a workshop at the time!)

Image

- I bought it as a rolling chassis (old 1970's repro frame), added a glass body, and a 305 out of a buick regal - weirdly the motor is now in my mate's truck, and the body has been replaced too!

hey man, welcome from the u.s. glad to see the american iron getting some love from across the pond. if you are serious about buying and shipping parts from the u.s. let me know. i have shipped to australia and canada with no problems. i'll bet those brake cables would go over for about 20$ to 30$ u.s. did i mention, i am within driving distance of lmc? lol.

definitely time for an update! cannot believe it's been so long!!

I'll have a rummage round for some photos in a bit, but over the years I've managed to do a fair bit to the old girl :)

the perkins 4 cyl diesel expired in a cloud of smoke one day, so I installed a 4 cyl, 2.5 litre non turbo diesel out of an Iveco (Italian fiat) van, super tough motors, very cheap to get hold of, and fits pretty well - this was a bit lacking in grunt, so I swapped it for a 2.8 turbocharged version of the same motor after a while

I managed to get hold of a set of 16" gmc alloys for it, as 8 studs are a pain to get hold of over here, and generally used and abused the truck as much as possible - towing trailers, towing cars on A-frames, running scrap metal in, hauling parts, going to car shows and upsetting purists ;)

I even ran the thing up the 1/4 mile at santa pod dragstrip, launching in 2nd gear to counter the super low first gear gave me 21.5 sec et's at 60mph terminal! hahaha, but it's a hauler not a racer!

here's a few vids of us messing around on a few tracks, 1st one with the perkins still in it, 2nd with the turbo'd Iveco

cheers for now! kev
