minor spruceup of a 67
brought home my 67. going to do a few minor things to bring it up to par for occasional use. mostly a few rattle cans. plan to use it as my home owners pickup for now. as well as junkyard runs. sometime in the future ill get it up to par for a daily driver.

Re: minor spruceup of a 67
i tinkered on the truck a little bit last night. tried removing a rounded off exhaust manifold bolt and broke it. hit the hinges and latches with some lube, re aimed the windshield washer squirters as the po installed kenworth tank/pump made the stream of fluid overshoot the windshield completely. got the choke figured out.
now i want to paint the grille and wheels. how do you guys think a black grille would look on the light green truck? the hub caps are a little rusty and nasty looking. im thinking to go black on the rims and white on the caps.

Just my opinion, I think the white grill goes better with light green. If it were mine I'd rattle can the grill, bumpers and wheels white, give the caps a good wire brushing and rattle can chrome those. The spray can chrome doesn't look half bad. Not too durable but looks decent and you can just respray it. Either way she's a good looking truck!

2x.. white grill and wheels gives the rig a much cleaner, vintage appearance. Going black makes it look like you're trying to hide something. Alternatively, a rattle can silver grill and bumpers also looks decent.sargentrs wrote:Just my opinion, I think the white grill goes better with light green. Or wear the patina proudly like I'm gonna do - punctured hood and all! .....A combine backed into it in the early 80s.
But under the hood she is as clean as a whistle...

Re: minor spruceup of a 67
I reviewed your thread on the other forum on that build and it is an inspiration. However I need to replace a fender and a door and I can't do multi coloured patina! love the engine bay detailing.
Today I went out with the plan of painting the grille. But it's too cold. So instead I decided to figure out why it wasn't starting. Turns out my duraspark module went bad. Replaced it with a spare, it fired right up. Then I climbed under the truck with a tractor muffler the po left in the box. What do you know, it fit. Tomorrow I plan to get muffler clamps and some pipe from Canadian tire. It'll do for now

Re: minor spruceup of a 67
The exhaust manifold gaskets where blown right out. So I went to change them. One of the manifold bolts broke right off. Plan a is a right angle drill and a left handed bit. Plan b. the head comes off. Keeping my fingers crossed. I don't want to pull the head. That is the sort of thing that snowballs into an engine rebuild.

If it comes to that I will probably revert to a 6 cyl. I'd love to go with a 300 and either a m5od or a zf. but for now I'd really like to get the old girl up and running with the 360. My yards a mess and the car won't cut it for dump runs .
