New to me 67 F-100

Post by USAROVER »

Hello all!

I saved one from a life of doom! I picked up a 1967 F-100 LB this last weekend. 352 with the auto. She hadn't had a life of leisure but I will say she has been well preserved. Rust in the inside of the bed but the front fenders & cab are in stupendous shape! The PO attempted a carb rebuild and didn't quite tweak things in correctly. The trans needs some love, hopefully not a rebuild (I'd swap instead I think). A few wires here & there are cut but I've already started in on those and thanks to this forum, I now know the parking lights go off when the headlights are turned on. That will be changed soon.

I have a few questions for the esteemed members:

What are your thoughts on going to an electronic ignition?

Is there a 'reminder' tutorial on how the engine and trans relate to teach other? I'm having a tough time remembering how a vacuum only system works and what components are involved. My thoughts are that something is missing hence my trans issues. It shifts buts its lazy and the kick down linkage was left off the carb.

Thanks for letting me in!

:wel: from Georgia! I'm not up on the FE's but I swapped in a Duraspark ignition in my 302 and it was the best move I've made.

Updates: Pertronix II was added not long ago, what a difference! The trans was garbage with a broken band and so I did rebuild after all. We pulled the motor and trans so I could re-seal (gasket) some stuff on the engine while the trans was being redone. This 47 year old truck had some SERIOUS gunk on the block! Of course once back in, I now have a leaky freeze plug, damn pressure washer! Tires soon, shocks too.

I'm back, as is OLD RED! After a fall & winter in the shop, Old Red has a fully rebuilt 352! The motor had been 'doctored' in the past, and terribly so. The heads were swapped for a 390 set. The intake and carb swapped for an Edelbrock aluminum and a 4 barrel. Dang those stock intakes are heavy!!!!!!! New gas tank, new radiator, what else?! Now I'm figuring out how to adapt the kick down linkage to the new carb.
