Trim removal

Post by coliver2 »

I have just started on the restoration of my grandfather's 1969 f250 ranger pickup.
Would like some advice on the removal of the trim, mainly the side pieces and around the windshield and rear window. Would like to reuse as much as possible, most is in good shape.

I think there are tutorials in the Tech section that will be a good read for you.

I couldn't find it but, as a rule of thumb, the first clip and the last clip on each trim piece is held on with a threaded stud and a nut screwed on from the back side of the body panel. The intermediate clips are either nylon tabbed or spring loaded and are riveted on. You remove the first and last clips nuts, carefully lift that end until the stud clears the panel and remove those clips. Then gently slide the trim off of the intermediate clips. The short, or wide, pieces are the hardest to maneuver. Go to DC's or the LMC websites catalogs and you can see how many of each clip are located where, in the molding sections of the catalogs.
