A gem of a find!

Post by tonyturbo »

I found this truck parked on the side of an old ladies house. She said it was her husbands fishing truck and would only go to the lake and back. Her husband passed away some years ago and the truck has been sitting ever since. She hired a mechanic to get it running and out of her driveway, but this mechanic said the engine was hydro-locked and would need to be rebuilt :? . So, after looking at it myself, rolled the dice and brought her home.

After towing it to the shop, I replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel lines and fuel. Within 2 hours the motor was running and asking where we were headed! I ditched the camper real quick and have been driving the truck daily since. I have loved driving this truck! I have never owned a vehicle that has a carburetor, all drum brakes and manual steering all in one! Its been an absolute blast to drive.

The truck is a 1967 F250 2wd Camper Special. The engine air cleaner says 352 on it but one of the guys I work with says its probably a 390, which I guess was a common swap in these. The truck is in fantastic shape. My immediate plans are to replace the exhaust manifolds (leaking like crazy) and build a full exhaust system, new wheels and tires and a good detail in and out.

I am really glad I ran into this site. It has already provided some great information and will make owning this truck more enjoyable.

Great find. Clean her up a little, and take her back to the previous owners' wife, just to show that she's back on the road again.

That is an excellent idea! The truck had a bunch of news papers, maps and fishing gear from the late 60s tucked under the seat. The original owners manual was also in the glove box with the owners name printed right on the booklet. Its been like digging through a little time capsule!

The tailgate and these wheel were tucked away in the camper, so I was able to ditch the 2 piece wheels right away. With the tail gate and wheels on and her first bath in about a decade, she doesn't look too bad :D The wheels, obviously must go, but she gets me around just fine.

That truck is pretty much a time capsule. You don't find them unrestored in that condition EVER!
