original paint or custom

Post by Magnetic »

What are your thoughts. I have been wondering about what color I should paint the truck. The truck came originally in a 2 tone mallard green with winter green. That's if I read the color codes correctly, I have been thinking of painting it candy apple red with a black top just looking for opinions. Should I keep paint close to original or do custom on it i know at the end of the day it's my decision but I would like to here everyone's thoughts. it's a 72 Ranger mostly original it does not have original paint right now someone painted over it

Like you said... Ultimately, the decision is yours. You will get a wide range of opinions on this topic, all mostly valid.

Here are a couple of questions that come up.. What are you looking for in your project? Are you looking to restore period correct for resale value or sentimental purposes (family owned one similar)? Or are you looking to resto-mod?
While these trucks are growing in popularity and value, you won't really go wrong either way, or any combination in between.
I am changing the color on my truck to a dark green metallic. It was originally lunar green.
Original colors for you would be nice. But a red would also be nice done properly.

As already stated, it goes both ways. Personally, I'm going with the loudest, brighest, gaudiest red I could find.

But that's my preference. At the F100 Supernationals, I saw a beautiful light blue and white two tone that looked like the original color scheme although it had been repainted. One of the most beautiful trucks I've ever seen.

try to find a pic of original color and take it from there. Mine was boxwood green and wimbledon white. I choose to go a totally different color.

Beauty is in the eye of the driver....go with what you like. My boxwood green and seafoam '71 gets lots of compliments, from both young and old alike. The good thing for me was the PO bought it for his 17 year old son but he couldn't get past the colours....a re-paint was too much of an investment for them so they sold the truck...ultimately the original colours are what sealed the deal for me, because they compliment the uniqueness of the truck.
