Wheel Specifications for '70 F250 8 lug

Post by Fordfool »

Hey guys, I was wondering while hunting ebay for wheel styles I really liked exactly what specs I should be hunting for with my '70 F250 8 lug wheels. I know there are specific measurements on the lug spaces, but I don't know them. Thanks! I have seen some newer wheels that look really cool, but wasn't sure they would fit.

Greetings,

Ford F250 lug patern is 8 on 6.5 from 1955 all the way up to 1998 with 9/16 bolts. After that, they went to a metric bolt patern. (8 on 170 MM)
Many other trucks share that same bolt patern due to the wide use of the Dana 60 axle.

Chevrolet 3/4 & 1 TON C20 C30 2WD from 1955 to 1987 = 8 on 6.5 with 9/16 bolts.
Dodge 3/4-1 TON 2WD/4WD from 1946 to 1993 = 8 on 6.5 with 1/2 bolts. (Probably cant use these on Ford F250 due to different bolt size)
Jeep J-20 SERIES all years = 8 on 6.5 with 9/16 bolts

When shopping for wheels pay attention not only to bolt pattern, but backspacing as well.
Wheels are constructed with the centers welded positive or negative to the center of the wheel. (Composite, Magnesium, Aluminum, Etc. are either forged or spun with a set backspacing as well)
Get wheels with the wrong backspacing and your wheel can scrub steering or brake parts or make the tire stick way to far out past the fenderwell and scrub on them too.

Make sure to pay attention to backspacing as well as bolt patern when shopping for wheels.

Hope this helps.

Amen. Try before you buy. 8)
I measured the clearance on my 16.5's and the calipers on my 71.
No way the new 16's are gonna fit. They still make 16.5's if you look
a bit you can find them.

Hey Jake11, I have 16's on my 68 camper special. My calipers clear just fine. Are the 71 calipers bigger?
