Gang,
I'm new, and want to thank you for this forum. I have been an old Ford hobbist for over 20 years. My knowledge is mostly in Mustangs - I've been a National judge with MCA, have restored or helped restore numerous high quality vehicles. My last "old Ford" was a 1972 Ranchero GT that I had to sell to pay for an attorney during a very dark time for me a couple years ago. I loved that ride and cried when it left. I've been through bankruptcty and two attempted foreclosures in the last couple years.
I'm slowly getting back on my feet. A good friend of mine has offered me the opportunity to buy a 72 F-100 Custom that has been sitting parked outside for the last some several years. Looking at the truck, the fender corners are bad, the hood is great, the cab corners are great, rockers (outer) look good, floors have issues - and, I've just cleaned out the bed discovering that it's all there - it flexes, but holds up my near 300 lbs standing in the center between the wheel houses.
We're talking buying pretty cheap here.
The 302 is all there - turns, and appears to make compression. There's no key - blaah blaah all the normal stuff.
I think it's worth buying. I'd never part a vehicle like this - but, I can part it and get my money back. Heck, it will near scrap for what I can buy it for.
I just want to be able to have something, try to save it and ideally improve it a little bit at a time.
This truck (I have a Marti Report) was built June 9th of 1972 - I was born July 31 1972.
Originally Wimbledon White with blue vinyl truck - to me, it seems attractive. It had black side wall tires, cigar lighter, heavy duty leaf springs, rear bumper - 302 with a 3 speed manual (it has a stick on the floor now)
What do you think?
White cab on the inside, blue dash pad (rotted) blue seat - would the steering column match the darker dash pad, or been white in 1972>? (it has a '67-70 column for some reason)
Also, I'll probably need to change the locks - F-100's had one key, right? Ignition worked the door locks......???
Thanks,
Andy Corum

from Georgia! She looks fine. Yes, one key for ignition and doors. You can still find complete sets on Ebay or some members here might have a set. Sounds like somebody swapped in a different column for some reason. Normally the columns are the same as the interior color or black. We'd be glad to help you get her back in shape!

Welcome aboard from Tehama County, Ca. Looks like a good one, and a lot of fun fixing it up.

Re: New to the forum - 72 Custom
Thanks guys.
The owner called today and wants me to pay to get a title. That was not our agreement. It's not a lot more money, but - I don't have much. I don't 100% know what I have and am starting to talk myself out of it. I bought the Marti report and spent three hours cleaning out by hand 15 years of trash out of the bed.
Really unsettled by it. To me - somebody asking for more money after the fact is a bad sign. A friend owns it - maybe I should walk.
