New to F100's
Hello Everyone,
I've actually been a long time Chevy guy and bought my first F-100 not too long ago. Always had Nova's for the longest time, but after watching Gas Monkey Garage-No flaming please , I liked the way the 67-72 F-100's looked. I can't believe how affordable these trucks still are compared to C-10's. I mentioned to a friend how I wanted to buy one and he just happened to know of a "barn find" '68 F100 not far from my house that was 99% rust free, with a Fatman MII already in it, and pretty much everything else done except bodywork and paint. The previous owner owned it for 35 years and needed to sell it after a divorce. Funny thing was he is a Chevy guy and got the truck in teh divorce because his wife didn't like cars. The catch was the previous owner parked it 5 years ago because of a bad engine-it had too much endplay. It wasn't running when I got it, so I had the tank cleaned, put in a new electric fuel pump since it was bad, gas line and it fired right up. BUT he was right the thrust bearing is probably gone, because the crank moves quit a but, too bad because it runs really well! Now I just need to get an engine in before spring comes. It has a 302/C4 combo in it, so at least finding a rebuilt 302 shouldn't be too hard. If anyone knows of a good place to get one let me know. One builder close buy quoted me $2000 to rebuild a engine. Not sure if I want to spend that much right now, but I may have to.
Here are a few pictures:

Re: New to F100's
from SoCal. Great looking truck to start with! That truck definitely has the right stance for a short bed. It has a 68 cab and doors, but that is a 67 grille and it has 67 hood emblems which are both sweet "one year only" items and are upgrades in my book. And don't worry, a lot of us watch GMG too...

Re: New to F100's
Thanks for the info on the grill and emblems. I wonder at some point if the hood and grill were changed? I got an extra set of headlight surrounds with the truck, so maybe it had a little fender bender and those pieces were replaced perhaps. Either way its a clean solid truck and a great foundation to build on.Calfdemon wrote: from SoCal. Great looking truck to start with! That truck definitely has the right stance for a short bed. Re: New to F100's
No problem... Your hood may not have been replaced as the 67 emblems and the 68-72 emblems use the same holes. So they are interchangeable. But either way, the 67 emblems and grille are awesome and the grille is not available after market. So having a nice grille like that is gold.
The tech/tutorials section of this website (link up top) is a great place to browse when you are new to these trucks. But for some of the differences in the years, here is a good link from that section: http://www.fordification.com/tech/67-72ID_01.htm
