Mirror options?
What kind of mirrors do you have? Can you see well out of them? I have the stock small square "sport" style mirrors that mount with two screws to the door right below the vent Window. It also seems as if both driver and passenger are swappable and neither have any convex shape, only flat glass. I like the look, but they're hard to see out of and always need adjustment; never stay in place. I have some West Coast Jr swing lock mirrors that need cleaning, but I'm not wanting to drill permanent holes just yet. I'm not sure I'll like the look with my truck's style and not sure how.much better the view will be. I've heard there are different sizes of the smaller "sport" style. Are there any bigger sport ones that are convex on the passenger side that visibility might be better? I want stock style that might have come on these trucks though, not the newer styles.

These are mine. Not even close to what you describe what you want. Just for the record you can't see much of anything at all with them but they do look cool.

Hehe, yeah I love the look of the peep mirrors, but seeing is a problem.

Re: Mirror options?
No problem, you just can't use the mirrors. Actually I can see enough out of the driver's side but the passenger mirror is just hanging there for looks. I have learned to look back myself since visibility out of the mirror is so minimal. On a truck I use daily I like bigger mirrors like you describe. I too don't like the idea of drilling holes in a door but it goes with the territory. I have always liked the West Coast style on bumps.

Re: Mirror options?
Me too, but I've come to like the simple look of the small standard mirrors on my 2wd. I love the west coast mirrors on a 4wd. I may just do a mock up and take some pics and see what I think.

Re: Mirror options?
When I had my 72 longbed, I had the small sport mirrors like you have. They worked somewhat, but with a longbed truck, there were times I really could not see as much as I needed to. Now that I am restoring a long bed crew cab, I have to do something different as using the sport mirrors would just be idiotic. I was originally going to go with the full size mirrors, but I know of too many bumpside doors getting dented to hell because the mirrors have no give. Someone hits the mirror, or a kid hangs on the mirror, and you end up with a large dent in your door. After all the money in my bodywork and paint, that doesn't work for me either.
I think what I am going to do is go with the dentside era mirrors as they are bigger than the sport mirrors but smaller than the West Coast mirrors. They are also mounted at 2 points instead of 3 and can move if hit rather than the door giving way first. They are sold all over the place and are not too expensive and I have seen them for under $20 a mirror. Here is a link to them at LMC if you don't know which mirrors I am talking about: http://www.lmctruck.com/features/fc/FCMIR.htm The LMC ones are a little more expensive than some, but it was a quick link.
Anyway, its another option and the style is true to Ford. They are just from the dent era rather than the bump era.

Re: Mirror options?
I agree that I'd be more pleased if I had a shorter truck, but with the Crew, it makes it much harder to see.
I figured those were the mirrors you were talking about, even before I clicked the link. Unfortunately, I don't care for them on a bump. I've seen them on a bump before, and for some reason the first thing I think of is that they aren't stock for the truck. I don't know why, it's just my personal taste I guess. It is about the perfect size for viewing though.
It looks like I might have repro mirrors on my truck and can get exact repro ones from NPD with a convex glass. If I don't like the west coast look, I can always try the NPD convex ones. I was just hoping for similar, just slightly bigger and easier to see out of sport style mirrors I guess.
Oh, also, the West Coast Jr. Swing-Loc mirrors are only mounted in 2 places and will give and fold in if you push them rearward and you have all the hardware in good shape, lubed and adjusted. It the 3 point West Coast trailer towing mirrors that don't move.(I dont know for certain the Ford terms for the 3 point style) Just an option for you as well, if you hadn't thought of them.

Re: Mirror options?
Well, if you decide to get rid of the stock one's on your truck, let me know what you want for them. As it is now, I have no mirrors on mine, but want the small stock one's as those big hangers just don't do it for me.
Btw, elgemcdlf, whats the scoop behind your front wheels on that truck? Did you close the top vents then make that for air intake?

Re: Mirror options?
Those were custom built. They are functional but don't really do anything except add a "look". I have also raised the hump in the hood 3/4" & removed the wipers replacing the holes with pieces of grate. Looks like Ford never put wipers in it. I also have a completely smoothed out dash from a '57 Fairlane that is going into the truck. The build thread is http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 22&t=54398 She is currently down getting the 460 built. Shooting for 650hp at the flywheel.arbo wrote:Well, if you decide to get rid of the stock one's on your truck, let me know what you want for them. Here is mine
Song references a bump if you listen to when the truck is bought.
