Having the Frame Painted
In the coming months I hope to have my truck painted the original colors and most of the rust/bondo cracks/peeling paint put to rest. But one thing that concerns me is the framerust underneath. I'll admit its not too extremely bad, the south has been kind to this old truck, nevertheless it could use some attention. I tried POR15 on my other truck and it covered the rust but thats about it. It doesn't look too good ( had to brush) or help value in any way and the entire job took me almost 3 weeks time. I don't really wish to use POR15 or really any product like it on the frame if I can avoid it ( don't get me wrong I love this stuff for anything else- I've used it on all my bodywork that I've done). If it was sprayed on then that's a whole new idea. I'd rather have the rust removed and then the frame painted with epoxy painted or even Rhino Lined if that's affordable. I plan on keeping this truck till the day I die so I definitely want something that won't cause problems in the future. I don't have the means to do a quality job, as learned previously by my other truck, so I need to find a place that might be willing to paint the frame. A resto shop nearby will Rhino Line it for around $2,000+ but some place has got to be cheaper. Has anyone had something like I'm looking for done to their frame? What have ya'll done to make the frame better?

Are you trying to do this with the truck still fully assembled? I know a local guy quoted me around $700 to sandblast and prime my frame but that was a bare frame delivered to his shop.

Re: Having the Frame Painted
DIY. I sand blasted my frame, primed, painted. I choose to do sections at a time. I tilted cab on it's back on plywood and slid it back towards rear. Since i had my front suspension out it made it easier to work on frame. I used VHT spray bombs (Epoxy paint) with 3 coats each of primer and gloss chassis paint. I made sure surface was cleaned good after blasting before painting. Seems to be holding up pretty good. I'm satisfied. Just wish i had a bigger air compressor so job would not last as long. Since it is a budget job, that is just the way i choose to get-r-done. I had media coming from the crack of a** all summer long.

Re: Having the Frame Painted
Right now I'm looking at having someone else do the job. The truck will be atleast partially assembled as I couldn't have it taken apart due to lack of tools or space. I don't even have a compressor right now. My goal is to have this done under $1000 for the frame and under $3000 for the body.
