Bumper bolt nuts

Are there special nuts that I should use with the carriage bolts when mounting a styleside contour (sport) bumper to the rear frame brackets? :?

I am changing from a step bumper to the sport bumper and picked up a pair of rear bumper brackets but the top and bottom bumper mounting holes are square and measure 11/16" x 1 1/8"

Not to my knowledge. I just bought a new sport bumper and mtg bracket kit (thanks Brandon!) And I had the OEM step bumper. The bolts/nuts to mount the old brackets to the frame were regular type bolts and nuts. The carriage bolt nuts on both the old and new bumpers were plain nuts too. Once I got 'em broke loose, they spun off by hand. All nuts had lock washers behind them too.

Are your carriage bolt holes in your brackets round and about 9/16"? Mine are rectangular and so big the 1/2" nuts pass right through them.

Shows you how the memory plays tricks as you get older. I just went to the basement and checked and yes, the slots in the bracket are the same as you said. There's a big heavy washer behind the nut. The base of the carriage head bolt is he same size as the square hole in the bumper but I guess the slots in the bracket allow for adjustment. I'll upload a pic when I get to my computer.

Got it! Just use some big old washers and it should be good.
