1971 F100 Door lock issue

Hey guys,

first off, sorry i'm not sure where to put this thread.
i just got the truck of my dreams a 1971 F100 Ranger Sport Custom
i am very green when it comes to working on it, and don't want to do something wrong or mess anything up, but i want to do the majority of repairs myself.
the issue i'm having is the door locks. i can lock them from the inside, but when the door is shut they pop back up. it happens on both doors, so i'm just not sure if its what its supposed to do, or if something is defective. I am able to lock both doors from the outside. Is this something that is wrong, or simply the way it was designed?

again sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question, and i would appreciate any direction to get me to the right location

That' the way they worked back then. You have to lock it with the key.

Its supposed to be like that so you don't lock your key inside the car. It kind of is a nuisance to always lock the door with the key even if your running late but its sure saved me from accidentally being locked out

if it was my mustang ( or some other cars I have )all I had to do push the lock down than as I close the door I push the button in on the handle and shut the door and its locked .I wish my truck did it too but its ok
