Enamel-clear coat

Post by Craigerf100 »

Enamel and clear coat.

Are they the same thing?

I've been looking on the internet for some good clear coats to choose from, and I keep finding affordable enamels.

Difference?

Ill be painting my truck jet black,

Should I spray on A coat or 2 of clear coat?

Any advice appreciated

Depends on if you are using basecoat/clearcoat or using single stage. The advice I was given before i started my paint job made since to me. It was that if i had never painted a car before it was best to stay away from basecoat/clearcoat. That type of paint was not easy to fix if i was to screw up.I guess it is for the more experienced painters. I went with the single stage urethane and i'm glad i did. I got some flaws that need some attention and can be fixed easily since i am using single stage. trust me, i'm no auto painter at all but i know what would work best for me and it turned out really well.

you don't have to use clear coat over a single stage paint. It will come to a glossy shine when paint goes on. I sprayed 3 coats on and waited about a week for it to cure and then wet sanded and buffed. Here's a pic before wet sanding to get rid of orange peel.
