front cab corner repair patch

Post by doughboy68 »

Anybody ever found a repair patch for the front cab corner or is it better to fab/weld? Is this the proper name?

I think most call it the lower cowl??? I have never seen replacements for this but it doesn't look too bad as it seems to be all flat pieces.

It's called a driver's or passenger side front corner jamb post. It houses the kick panel and inside vent that comes down from center vent that runs across the cowl behind the hood. It also supports the corner of your roof and door and hinges attach to it. They don't make replacements for the corner post. The best solution is to find a rusted out cab and cut the corner post that you need out. Unless you're a good fabricator and welder. Fabricating or junk yard is determined by the damage or rust and where it's located. Good luck with your project.

I gave you some wrong information on the item you were asking about in your photo.   But my description was right spot on. It is actually called a "panel assembly - front pillar". Illustration number 02042 or 3. The 2 is for the right side and 3 in for the left side. The part numbers are C7TZ - 81002042 - A and C7TZ - 81002043 - A. You just can't go and order them because no one will have them. You need to search the web for them and you may luck up and find them but be for warned they can cost you a bunch of money because they are called NOS (New Old Stock). I have seen an article on repairing the panel assembly - Front pillar. I will try and find it and post where to can locate it. It has photos that will help you out.    :fr:

That lil hole up in the corner? Cut it out and weld in a patch panel.

A good place to practice yer welding cuz no one ain't gonna see it.

I located the article on the Panel Assembly - Front Pillar repairs. :D :D :D :D It's on this website. :woohoo: :woohoo: Here's how to find it. Go to the "Home Page". Click on "Photo Galleries" and look half way down on the left side and find "Misc/Personal" then click on "My Truck Projects". Then on the page that comes up click on "My 1967 F-100 SWB 2WD". The next page that comes up is the "Project Index" page and go down and click on "Page 9 - October 19, 2003 Starting over on a cab....Again!" This page deals with the Front Pillar repairs starting with the second paragraph and the photos are just below that.

Was this the repair patch that you got from Rock auto? I didn't realize there was a patch available, I was just going to fab up my own, which wouldn't be fun.

no... I could have cut it and made it work, but it was just as easy to use some other metal I had and it worked well with a little inginuity.

Okay, I'll just go on with my original plan, and fab that section from scratch, thanks!

Are you going to cut a drain hole in that side? I'm wondering where would be the best place to do that.

I read some other folks posts on here who had drilled 3/8" hole dead center in the bottom... I think it works for me.
