My mild resto is in full swing now before winter and I have some underneath rust that I need to take care of. I want to use POR15 after doing reasearch on it. The total comes out to around $400 from their website so this being the most money I'm putting in the truck I want to make sure I'm doing this right. I have a lot of area to cover so I'm thinking a gallon of POR15 gloss black, 1 gallon of Chassis black, 1 gallon of Marine clean, and 1 gallon of prep and ready. Does this seem like I'm ordering too much? The rust is mostly on the frame starting at the bed. A few other smaller areas too. What is the best way to apply this stuff over rust? Will it seize up bolts if I put it over them? Can I paint exhaust with this?

POR15 is some awesome stuff.. Very good adhesion if prepped right. If you aren't dead set on buying POR 15, you may look at KBS coating. KBS was started by an employee of por. They made some changes/improvements and charge less. I used a quart of the undercoat and a pint of the topcoat. A little literally goes a long way. The quart covered the entire frame, rear springs, and front suspension.
If you buy either, make sure you buy smaller cans. Once you open a can the shelf life is shortened. If you seal the lid back you will fight to get it back off, even with Saran Wrap in between.
I have been rough on my chassis paint since it cured. I've made attempts to protect it, but the cab has come off the board and rubbed the frame when I was rolling it back to work on cab mounts. The paint held up amazingly well.

I've already bought the POR15 in 4 quart sized jars. I also bought some Eastwood Rust Encapsulater and some Internal Frame spray from them. Prep work is hard to do but ive sanded most loose rust of and I will soon be degreasing and using the Prep and Ready products.

I've never used POR-15, but when I belonged to a motorcycle group, everyone commented that if it was left exposed to the sun, you had to paint over it, or it would lose its color over time. Anyone else have this experience with using POR-15 on their trucks?

Yes, that is true. Doesn't lose it's coverage properties, just kinda "grays" out and looks "chalky". I always top coat with 2 coats of gloss black.

I will agree with the others that it is a great product and i also highly recommend it. Mine has only been on for a little under a year though so i can't really speculate on the lasting part. Are you brushing it on? If so i have some words of warning:
First off do not get any on your skin and if you do wipe it off right away!!! If you allow it to dry it will your skin will be black for at least a few days. Also watch out cause when i did it I got some on my jeans and it bled through.
The other thing is that if you do not think that you will use the whole quart at one time, try to avoid getting any of it in the groove on the can, but if you do, put a piece of plastic under the cap if you close it. If you don't and leave it sit, you wont be able to get the lid off without destroying it.
These are the things i learned from using it, but your mileage may vary so to speak. If you have any other questions let us know.

I've finished my part for this weekend today. I only used I coat of chassis black as I was running out of it. I guess I'll find out in awhile where I missed painting topcoat over the POR15. I'll post some pictures once I take them. I have gotten a lot of POR15 on me. I worse coveralls but the paint bled through.
