Alright, the OCD has kicked in
Over a FTE it was pointed out again that I have a 67 grille in my 68. I didn't let it bother me too much until I got all my paperwork and calls done early and then the danger started. Surf'd the net and found that I have to have a 68 grille. Seeing that the 67 grille fit in do I need to modify anything or was anything modified to fit this grille? The 67 grille is nice, I don't know if it is original Ford but all it needs is a polish.
I'm pretty sure I want the steel one that you could paint but a aluminum one would not break my heart. I see they are high. Is mine being a 67 worth anything to sell to put towards a 68?

Nice truck. Obsessions are dangerous to your pocket book. You should be able to trade your aluminum grill for a steel grill plus some cash.

How can I tell if it is a original ford part? I wouldn't want to mislead anyone when selling it.

There should be a part number stamped on it. There's a 99.9999% chance it's original. Nobody remans those. The dies were destroyed in a fire many years ago and, to my knowledge only DC has considered having new dies made and the projection for that is far in the future.

Not sure. It worked for me when I copied-and-pasted your entry into the Test section of the forum.bluef250 wrote:Nice truck. Obsessions are dangerous to your pocket book. You should be able to trade your aluminum grill for a steel grill plus some cash.

Whoa! On edit, it even worked when I quoted you! At least, it did on my computer. Excuse #13 of the top 20 list for software developers: "It works on my computer!"

Beautiful. Did you have the truck re-painted or is that original? Is that "Boxwood Green"?

It is boxwood. The previous owner painted it I think he said 12 years ago.

You do have a 67 grille on your truck. The 68 grilles are different. click on the link on top "identifying 67-72 Trucks.
The 67 68 and 69 grilles all mount the same, no modifications are needed.
Did you have your VIN number deciphered? one last question, Do you have door lock knobs to lock your doors with? Or do you lock with inside door handle or key? The 67 trucks have no door lock knobs, in other words you lock the doors with a key from the outside or when your inside the truck you lock with the inside door handle. This was a safety feature done by Ford. You would have a key lock on passenger side, not drivers side. Purpose was, to lock drivers door from inside then slide out passenger side and lock with key. Kept you from getting hit by passing cars.
Your hood emblems indicate 68
As far as part numbers, these grilles have a stamping on them of 67 this holds true for the 68 and 69 grilles, all marked 67 Just like 70-72 grilles all three years are marked 70
If I were you I would keep the 67 grille, regardless if you purchase a 68 grille. According to Dennis Carpenter, they are suppose to reproduce the 68-69 grilles, NOT the 67 grilles. What does that mean? sooner or later the 67 grilles are going to be in high demand, basically worth a small mint.

Not sure about the key-lock. My 67 has them on each door, and it is covered in the owner's manual.chicof100 wrote:You do have a 67 grille on your truck. The 68 grilles are different. click on the link on top "identifying 67-72 Trucks.

I believe there is a thread or sticky on the site that talks about late-1960s production lines mixing up year-model parts at the end of the model year. Just like your truck, some new 68's may have arrived with a left-over 67 grill. You may have one of those extra special trucks. I would not change a thing.

Good point. I would also leave it be. The 67 grilles are very nice, even nicer when polished.3 Speed wrote:Not sure about the key-lock. Re: Alright, the OCD has kicked in
I've decoded the truck. It has the 68 inside door release and the lock knobs. The story behind it the truck is the owner pulled it apart for paint. When he did he put all the parts in the bed of the truck. While he was away some of his workers had to put the truck outside to work on a piece of equipment in his shop. Well, someone stole all the parts while it was outside overnight. he bought all he could new and the rest used. I'm guessing he got the grill used. I'm going to keep it but paint it. I need a new windshield so at that time I'll get the regular seal so the windshield trim will not go back on. I want to remove the belt line trim but I don't want to deal with the holes, so I don't know what I'm going to do there.

I have the cluster on the bottom. I took the cluster apart and buffed the lense and painted the needles back. Made a huge difference. I like what you did with the white background.
That grill is amazing. I bet that was a lot of work.
