For those of you that tow with your trucks, what mirrors are you using? My truck has a west coast sr style and they are horrible. I think the actual mirror head may be incorrect tho, as it's painted white. Backing a trailer with these mirrors is impossible.
So, what are y'all running and do you like them.

Not sure what you mean by impossible to back a trailer with. I have the standard sport mirrors and the JR West Coast would be a major improvement. The wider three post towing mirror is probably the best original mirror you will find for wide trailers.
How big/wide is your trailer?
Exactly what type of mirror do you have now?
What exactly is the issue? Can't see the ground? Not wide enough?

I have West Coast-Sr mirrors. The truck came with one WC-Sr mirror, and one piece-of-junk painted mirror. I quickly swapped it out for another WC-Sr mirror. The Sr mount has the mirrors so far out that it makes it hard to park sometimes, but it also makes it great for towing! These are very flat mirrors, so I've thought about putting one of those smaller convex mirrors in the corner. I think my piece-of-junk mirror had a separate circular convex mirror mounted underneath; maybe that's what you need to keep the classic lines with a more modern convenience. Modern mirrors have a bit of a curve to them, which makes them really nice for towing! No comparison, but also no classic lines!

I have seen quite a few with the small round convex mirror below the main one. I have also wondered about a convex mirror for the passenger side, but I thought all driver side mirrors were flat? FleaBay has quite a few West Coast style mirrors to choose from; I wonder if they have any curve to any of them, and if you could use just the mirror portion from somewhere?

Ive got the west coast sr. mirrors. I also have convex mirrors mounted to the mirror frames hanging below the mirror head and there great. I use them for the cabover and for towing. they do stick out and are very unforgiving if you touch them to something but I try to keep alot of space around them

Backing a trailer is easy. Place your hand on the BOTTOM of the steering wheel, then move your hand in the direction you want the BACK of the trailer to go.

I'd personally go for whatever type of mirror you think looks good on your truck... you dont need mirrors to back at all if you know how to do it right, which comes with experience and practice. My advice is do not back from your blindside (passenger side) whenever possible, just look out your window. Aim your trailer tires where you want them to be on the drivers side, experience tells you the otherside is good unless you are squeezing it in somewhere tight, then have someone watch the passenger side for you and position them in front of your rig where you can see them at a quick glance while backing... you'll never need a mirror this way and you can pick what looks good vs. big ol' honkin' mirrors just for backing up! I can back my boat at the boat ramp or back into my drive in my sleep because practice makes perfect...

I have west Coast Mirrors and have no problem backing a trailer. Sometimes I just turn and look over my shoulder. When I was a kid learning to drive, my Uncle told me that it wasn't the mirrors that were having trouble backing up.
