Clear Coat Motorcycle Frame

Post by Subzero »

On a completely un-ford truck related topic I have a mini bike I am currently restoreing and I was wondering if I should clear coat the frame on it? I want to do the restoration just as a person might restore a Harley or other bike. I figured someone might know on the forum so I don't have to join another just for one question. This is the second time Im fixing up the bike as I got hit by a car on it. Thanks

You did not mention if the frame was painted yet but if not, have you ever tried VHT paint? That is some tuff stuff. Should not need clear coat considering VHT comes in gloss also. Far as clear coating i think that would be a personal preference. just my :2cents:

I have already painted the frame with rustoleum enamel black gloss. Next time I do a bike I will be sure to try that kind out though. I have liked the previous results of using the paint even though it is a rattle can. I also don't have a paint gun or compressor ( although I might in the next few months) and my main project is the F100 so all funds go to it.

I went ahead and clear coated the frame. I figured it wouldnt hurt anything and it gave it a little more gloss look. I will have to post some pictures when I finish with the bike. I restored it and was hit by a car on it in early July and the wreck destroyed almost everything I did to get it looking nice. Now it will look even nicer with the frame repainted.

My son-n-law fixed up an old mini bike for his nephew. He done a complete resto on it and i must say it turned out real well. He even found a small racing suit to match bike. That little fellow was tickled to death.
