1967 f-250 stock bumper options???

Post by pclepage »

Hi there,

I hope this isn't too technical a question for the discussion group, but I don't quite know which group this basic question goes under.

I have a 1967 f-250 Camper Special (Ranger). I am currently restoring it to original and hope to get collector plates. I am pretty sure the rear checkerplate step bumper (which is welded to the frame) is not original.

I need to get a year correct rear bumper for my vehicle and would like to know the options available from the factory for this particularly odd year. I will need to prove to the insurer that whatever I install was a factory option.

Thanks very much, I have been searching everywhere!

Paul

Rear bumpers were not required back in the day... they were optional equipment. It wasn't until around 1973 that passenger vehicles were required to have one. AND... pick up trucks are not classified as passenger vehicles.

Check and verify your state's motor vehicle code for specific requirements. Be very careful to check the usage and meaning of the words it uses. In California for example, even though a SuperCrew has four doors, it is still not classified as a passenger vehicle because it is based on a truck chassis. That's how alot of SUVS were categorized until more and more were offered as unitized bodies (aka unibody - no frame).

In terms of actual options back in the day:
1. No bumper;
2. A sport or "contour" bumper; or,
3. A "dock" bumper which you have referred to as "checkerplate". Most folks had one installed because they wanted to tow something. And unlike these days, frame-mounted receiver hitches were definitely not the norm.
