Re: Door Gap
I split the differance in gap between the bottom edge of the cowl faceing the door and the door jamb at the gas hole. Then try to align everything from those gaps. Dennis carpenter has or use to have a write up on aligning doors. Good read that helped.

Re: Door Gap
Thank you for the lead. I've been looking around at local trucks and older cars and see just about everything from 1-8" up to 1/2" I'm guessing that it's more of a function of how the door latches and not so much clearance. I just want to make sure the door won't bind and chip paint.
I worked on mine yeaterday and increased tha gap a little (around 1/8" to 3/16") but I pretty much have run out of play in the direction I need to go. With the door shut and latched and supported by a jack and 2x4 to prevent it from dropping, I loosened all the bolts and pried it back towards the rear and it moves no more than it is right now. So, unless I bore out the holes in the door I don't think i'm going anywhere. I basically want to decide it it is worth the extra effort or if I'm missing an easier way. I'll check out the write up at DC

Re: Door Gap
The easyest place to chip paint is the cowl and fender when the door rubs it. Seems if the door is in a little to far it likes to chip them when it opens. The one thing that got me when i was ajusting mine was forgetting to tighten the rear bolt on the hindge in the cowl area and when i would it would throw it off a little.
I found a little dot marking with a sharpie was a big help with referance when i was ajusting to not go to far one way or the other.

Nothing currently rubs so I'm going with it - I'll let you all know if that was a mistake
