67 F100 Passenger Door Lock Problems

Post by KStew67F100 »

I recently purchased a 1967 F100 Ranger and have been working out all of the little kinks. One of those kinks is the passenger door won't lock. When trying to turn the key to lock the door, the key stops half way. I compared the driver and passenger door locking mechanisms and it looks like they are flipped versions of each other (driver side lock mechanism moves down, passenger side lock mechanism moves up). I decided to dig a little further and open up the passenger door paneling to see if there is anything blocking the lock mechanism. I couldn't really see well enough to see anything blocking the locking lever, but the lever only moves half way up (hence the key only being able to move half way). I then unscrewed the latch and tried locking the door... the lever was able to move all the way up and lock the door. From that point, I decided to leave the lever in the locked position and attach/screw the latch back to the door. The lever stayed in the locked position, and I have left it that way until a solution is found.

Has anyone had similar issues? Any solutions or thoughts? :?

When I repaired my drivers door mechanism, I used this http://www.fordification.com/tech/doors01.htm along with this drawing

I have seen people grind the end of the stud for the latch and even window cranks if the splines are stripped near the end so the handle will reach the intact splines. I would take the other side off and compare, that may be causing the binding. Will the key lock it with the handle removed?

Thanks all for the pictures/suggestions!

Chad67, I see you have a 67 F100 as well... do you think you could take a picture your passenger door latch (from the outside) so I can make sure mine matches what it should be? Thank you!

I can take a pic tomorrow, but just so I get the shot you need....is there any way you can post a pic of what you need me to post up. I think I might be having a brain fart, 'cause I'm not sure what you need to see. If you need any shots of the inside of the door, let me know-I'll take mine apart.

chad67, I'll post a picture sometime tonight. The shot I'm looking for is from exterior of the door casing looking at the latch where you would unscrew the 3 screws.
