firewall patching the cheap way

Post by hedz »

i have many oem holes in my firewall. these holes in combination with my entirely iron engine generate quite a bit of heat that act as a heater that never turns off blasting my cab with hot hair. today i'm going to cut circles out of cork gasket material and use rtv high temp and seal up all the holes with these. i'll take pictures of the work after i'm through. should lower the temps in my cab by quite a bit. i'm even going to make one for the brake pushrod. stay tuned. :D

some of you are shaking your head.

If you are going that high tech why not just get spray foam (I think it's $3 a can at Walmart. Cheaper than RTV) & fill the holes with it. That is what I am digging out of my firewall where someone has filled openings with.

i've actually seen this done on some cars. i just happen to have a roll of really thick gasket and lots of rtv lying around. doing my "repairs" right now

and i'm done. that should keep the engine compartment heat off my feet. i really need to get some coated tri-ys with some good exhaust. that would help temps even more. and a little dynamat or other kind of heat shield. i can't put anything nice in the cab though until i replace the roof because she's not watertight with the tree limb damage
