bring back old paint

Post by abe »

What is the best way to make the paint on my 70 F350 look better. It is badly faded.

Is good old rubbing compound the best way to revitalize the paint job? Or are there better things on the market now. Or should I just wash and wax? I do not have a buffer so I will be using elbow grease.

thanks, abe

Whew... that's alot of real estate to do it by hand.

If you really want a nice finish I would recommend learning how to cut and buff. There are lots of vids on YouTube. Prolly the most reliable ones are by Meguiar's. Gotta be real careful though... sanding, cutting, and buffing could result in bleed through, cut through, or burned edges. But there is only one way to learn and that is to actually do it after thoroughly researching and understanding how to do it. Try reviving the roof first... it's the least visible.

Typical steps;
Wetsand with 1200
Wetsand with 1500
Wetsand with 2000
Polishing compounds on wool bonnet
Polishing compounds on foam bonnets
Apply glaze, then wax.
