Rear Glass Install with Stainless Trim how-to?

Post by moparmania »

I bought a rear window and rubber seal with the slit for the stainless trim for my 1972 Bump from NPD. Does anybody know how to install this? I saw a video online that says to use a rope, I tried it but it didn't work for me. I also searched the Fordification site, but couldn't find anything either. Help is appreciated! Thanks.

The rubber goes on the glass ,then the trim goes in the rubber
a little masking tape helps hold it place.
Start the rope in the bottom center and leave enough for a good hand hold.
go all the way around the window and put it deep in the rubber channel.

I use a 3/16 rope some use a thinner one , but get a good strong rope.
lube the rubber up with something. (soapy water, silicone or rubber lube.)

Get a helper to hold the window in place out side while you pull on the rope.
The trick is the rope lifts the rubber over the pinchweld.
work from the center out have the helper push down and in as needed.
thumping on the glass with your fist work too.
you may need to lift the rubber with a bent hook or screwdriver.
if the rope slips out of the rubber.

The new gasket and trim will make this harder .
Windshields are the same but they're easy to break because they're laminated glass.

Good luck.

Everything previously mentioned is spot on. Only thing I would add is to have a couple extra sets of hands and maybe try to install in warmer weather like now. I did mine in the winter, although I got it in, it was really stiff to work with. Hope that helps!
