Great to find a site with so much info. I have a 69 4x4 and looking to swap from 360 to 302 that I just acquired. I've been waiting for my older brother to drive my truck back here to Nebraska for about 4mos now as I just purchased it from him. And feeding him money to get it able to make the trip back here safely. Today 4 new tires, last month a MSD ignition. Last week a new exhaust system. He's just put the tires on tonight and took for a test drive but saying that it has a front end wobble still.
Had this wobble for the last month and thought that it was due to the tires for the truck had been sitting for the last 6yrs in storage and had not been driven. It has 50, 000 original miles. Tomorrow he's looking at the tie rod ends. ? Who no! I've owned numerous Ford's truck and have a mobile bbq food truck thats a Grumman that I built out of a bread truck, that has a Ford chassis and I put a 300 cid from a 85 f150, 4 speed. Runs like a top. Hope to meet some more Ford fanatics here. Thanks Mike

I think we have all been in your shoes-buying parts as we can find/afford them. There's a junkyard near my house, and on my 3rd trip there, I told the owner to be prepared to be my friend until I don't have the old truck anymore.

Well been checking for tie rod assembly but not cheap. And.hard to find local. $575.00 advance auto. My brother heading to wrecking yard to find center tie rod bar and will replace both ends.
It seems someone jacked up under the oil pan and dented it and the tie rod setup. He had to replace the oil pump and beat the dent out of the pan.
I've got a lot of thlngs to do to it as soon as it gets back here. A new whinch 8500lb,roof mount spotlight,KC spotlights aand a Hurst pistol grip shifter like in the 70 super bee. draw my own design for a boss mount. Then sell them for $99.95.direct replacement for the shifter.

Welcome from your neighbor down the road in Lincoln! :wel:

You may want to reconsider swapping out the 360 for the 302. The 360 is a purpose built truck engine, they make lots of torque down low in the power band where a 4x4 needs it. The 302 may be a bit underpowered for such a heavy truck. Not to mention needing new engine mounts, tranny bellhousing, etc.

Thanks for your input Fly boy but look for more fuel mileage and as for more torque I'm looking to matching it with a nv4500 5speed. But we will see what kind of fuel mileage my brother gets when he brings the truck back here from Spokane,Wa. Its 1400 miles, and hoping that he gets at lest 6mpg pulling the boat back with it. Like I stated it a 21'Duck worth aluminum in a twin axle trailer. 2000lbs. He's got three passes to come over. A lot has to do with matching of the right transfer case. I read where a gentleman put one behind a 390 and cost him 1800 total for the switch. I'm prouble looking at $2000-2200 for the make over....he's was a 1972 2wd.
