Opinions on Grill color for the highboy

Post by 1971ford »

I currently have an aluminum grill on the Fummins project... it's scratched up and oxidized, like any other non-polished, non-reanodized bumpside grill.
I have a nice straight steel grill i was going to have chrome dipped but have decided to have it powdercoated instead to keep cost down, and because of the risk of damaging it's $600 chrome job on the Rubicon.

Looking for opinions on whether to keep the aluminum grill or go to a painted (powdercoated) grill, and if so, what "color"?
I do like the aluminum look, but I think a beefy steel grill powdercoated the right color would be killer.

If it's a basic color like "black" or "white" I can have it sandblasted/powdercoated for free or a few pennies. If it's something like powder-coat chrome, or charcoal, etc., i'll have to pay a decent bit.
Bumper will be painted black when its done. Flatbed will be painted black or possibly same as grill.

I say to keep the aluminum. I guess I'm a traditionalist that way. I don't like black grills, I don't like black wheels, I don't like black cars (even though the current color of my '67 is ... black!). Maybe powder-coated white, maybe silver or chrome.

Just my two cents. I'll enjoy reading others' opinions!

I sure like the look of the aluminum '69 Ranger grille with the red stripe, Ranger badge, and satin-black accented headlight bezels on a red truck.
Aluminum got my vote!

Nothing beats the look of a Polished Aluminum Ranger grille. A correct grille fixed up like 72BahamBlue suggested is the look for a 69 Ranger. Damn those grilles just look Sick.
If your into the bushes and all off-roading, then a nice steel grille powder coated to your liking is the way to go.
What makes you happy?
I say Polished Aluminum and fresh paint.
