Just got out from under the 68 trying to find the source of the noise when I ease over speed bumps. Yup radius rod bushings went Tango Uniform. The first thing I do is come to Fordification and see is anybody has some tips I can use.
YOU ARE THE MAN!!
Thanks for taking the time and doing a great job with the pics.
just want to say thanks for the info and pics on the kingpin and bushing installment. I'm just getting started on a disc brake swap and replacing all bushings up front also. This post was very helpful.
flyboy2610 congrat on a great post! the best i´ve ever seen so far.
Also, did you mentioned amazon to buy the bushings? What about the part no. can you post them?
Thanks a lot and my hat goes off to you, again.
great post flyboy2610! would love to do this myself but its out of my league plus I don't have a place to stow my truck on jackstands while I wrestle with the 40+ years of old rubber and fused metal.. great job on your write up1

About to do the brake swap. One thing I can't find though, is the rubber bushings that go between the coil and the radius arms and get secured by that bolt. Where did you get yours and what are they called?
Nice work! I think you could have saved some money on those spring compressors. You don't need them for ibeam suspension. I've done my 89 ranger drop with out spring compressors, all you do is let the ibeam hang and start unbolting the spring.
Flyboy, your post were helpful. Finally get my disc spindles back tomorrow from having new king pins reamed out. New coil springs, shocks, all bushings, tie rod, drag link. I hope front suspension goes in a heck of alot better than it came out!! What a ^%&)*# job that is to take all that out and sandblast and paint!
A royal pain! But it does go back together a lot easier. Hope you marked your i-beams for L/R. I didn't and had get the guys here to help me sort it out. Springs too.

I am using the bump stops on i- beams for reference . I am using Moog springs, they are the same height on both sides. I learn that they are different from factory. Since the bumps stop were mentioned, do i have to cut them off since i am using 74 spindles?
Probably so as the bump stop is incorporated in the spindle of the '74 disc. My '70's actually were already removed even though I had drum brakes. Just a hole where it used to be so I figure if the '74 spindle bump stop is insufficient I can always add a little more in the original location. However I think it's fine without it.

Awesome post! Now I feel both confident and a little overwhelmed that I can redo my front end suspension. All I thought I had to do was replace the radius arm bushing
SSooo in order to install new king pins , I have to have some machine work done before installing the new king pins?
Can I not just remove the old king pins and put the new king pins in?
