I just bought a 72 F-250 from a dad's friend last night. I'd been looking for a truck for a while, and my dad told me about his friend's, so I finally went to take a look. He's owned it for 20 years, and before that, it belonged to his dad. The drive train is really solid. The 360 in it was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago and everything was balanced, so it's a really smooth running engine. I believe he said that the transmission was gone trough when the engine was rebuilt also. (I'll have to get a list everything when I pick up the papers on Saturday.)
Cosmetically, it's not that pretty, but there's minimal rust. There are only two spots on the body with very small rust issues, 2"x6" at most, and the battery tray and inner fender look pretty bad.
My goal is the drive it mostly as it for now, using it for working on a couple other projects I have, while repairing some of it's most glaring needs. Eventually, I'd like to do a decent restoration on it.
Most pressing right now is to get the sloppy steering under control. He's replaced the ball joints and other front end components, but there's a good 4 plus inches of steering slop. It shouldn't take much to get it ready for Memorial Day Weekend!

from California! Have fun with your new toy! Check the steering box, one of my f250's in the past had a real loose steering box, so I replaced it. Drove great after that.

I'm told that there is a certain amount of adjustment you can do, but I'm not finding much info on the manual steering boxes.popeyes71 wrote: from California! Have fun with your new toy!
