'Cutting in' a late model pickup truck bed floor

Post by motzingg »

My inner bed is pretty well rotten out and I'm going to have to do something to replace it. Has anyone tried cutting the wheel arches and bed floor out of a later model truck and patching them into a Bump bed?

I like the stock look of the ribbing in the floor so i dont want just plain sheet metal... not sure what to think of those 'bed repair sections' they look kinda generic and i'd probably need a whole bunch of them.

I'd just like to see some pictures of someone who has tried it, maybe ideas about good donor beds... I know i could probably get a clean floor from a early 90's f150 short box

oh yeah this is going in my short box 68' f100

I've heard of people putting 73-79 sides on 90's boxes to restore their dents
If you are careful and crafty I could see where it would work. :2cents:

well, i just talked to my neighbor tonight and he has a '92 that got rear ended about 10 years ago... he wasn't planning on keeping the truck, in fact he's sold it 3 times, and it keeps coming back to him... 300 six, what're ya gonna do!... anyhow he's thinking that he might have this truck forever and wants to put a new bed on it, so i'm probably going to get the old one to cut the floor out of.

I'm sure i'm not the first, just would like to see some pictures maybe of where to cut so i dont loose the structure (or what is left) of the bump bed.
