New member to Forum - 69 Camper Special

Post by Kane »

Greetings from the desert. Just picked up a new vehicle, have a bunch of questions as might be imagined, so here goes.

1969 F250 Camper Special 2WD
What I've learned to date
has a 70 or newer hood, as indicated by the chrome trim on the front. Also has hail damage dings on it.
was originally a 360, but they bored it to the 390 during rebuild.
Some damage to right side front fender, but minor.
Minor surface rust in bed, no major dings.
No dash pad, but honestly, I'm liking the metal dash look better actually, and since you can't seem to get a dash in green, I don't like idea of black dash.
rust around rain gutter area, will be grinding into that area to see how bad it is.
Typical starting point I'm sure, some new parts, some old, some missing

I've been hitting up the supply houses on parts, as well as local junkyard, but have run into a couple small questions to start.

1. Front speaker - what the heck is it supposed to connect to up in the upper dash? I see nothing in there to hold it in. (ordered new speaker and radio as both were missing)
2. Radio - how am I supposed to get it in there? I have the underdash AC that eats up the glovebox/dash space, and there appears to be no way to maneuver that in there without bending stuff. I could bend the ears for the radio back I guess, but I need them, as the radio is one of those that looks like the old one but has cd controls, etc..
3. Seem to have all the pieces to make the horn work, but no power making it up column to where the spring contact touches. Not a huge issue here, this one I can hunt down.

Nothing major to start with, just a quick introduction.

:wel: from Georgia! She looks great. You'll probably get better responses to your questions posting in the appropriate forum category. Some of the "gurus" don't venture out of their favorite subjects.

Welcome, I live about 4 hours east of Phoenix.

1. Front speaker - what the heck is it supposed to connect to up in the upper dash? I see nothing in there to hold it in. (ordered new speaker and radio as both were missing)

Ford has a bracket for the speaker. I see them occasionally on Ebay. Should be fairly easy to find at a pick and pull.

I will look at the 1969 I have later and try to get a photo. I believe that the factory AC was an afterthought. Not until the 1973 was the AC designed into the truck.

3. Seem to have all the pieces to make the horn work, but no power making it up column to where the spring contact touches. Not a huge issue here, this one I can hunt down.

The horn relay should be between the battery box (right side) and the starter solenoid. The horn relay can burn out. The horn is grounded through the column. Often in changing the turn signal switch the wiring gets messed up. Check the horns direct to battery.
