68 F250 Ranger Woodinville, WA

Post by Akrambler »

So lucky me. A friend of my wife, has/had this nice Robin Egg Blue baby in her yard, that has a flat-bed back, that they had used to haul things around for their kids scouting, soccer team etc.... and her husband didn't need a new project to get it back to it's old glory, so graciously GAVE me the truck. The engine had been re-built by a former owner, and all works fine, but since it had sat for about 6 months, the right rear wheel had seized and it wouldnt go. Niether of us being wrenchers, but me a former carpenter and determined to figure things out, it took me some research, but learned how to get the emergency brake backed off the drum. I still cant get the drum off, but at least the wheel turns now, and next weekend, this baby has a new home and I have a wonderful project to learn and work on. So now I become a new member, with my 68 F250 and am excited as heck to meet all of you and learn how to bring this baby back. the chrome is perfect, the paint pretty good, and the interior needing some sweet loving care.

thank you all in advance for your advice, guidance, and knowledge.

:wel: from northern California. We always ask newbies for pictures and we love to know what state and town you a from. We promise we won't stock you. The location information really helps when you post that you need a part or someone's assistance. I will offer parts cheap, or free, if I don't have to box them for shipping. A little while back I gave someone a decent camper shell off of a dentside truck, but he was very local.

So welcome aboard (pun intended) and we can't wait to see pictures of your "free" truck.

So as mentioned in the subject line, Woodinville, WA, it is just a bit north of Seattle. and a perfect place for crusing in a bump. Just got a photo of it. it is coming home this weekend. Keep in mind, it got washed AFTER the photo, so picture it a bit cleaner. I guess this would be the place to aks......So it looks like a previous owner built his own flat bed for it. Eventually I would like to get the box bed for it. Unfortunatley, there aren't any junk yards close by that I can see, a good 50 miles away or so, but are they hard to come by?

I think I mentioned, I ain't no wrench, but am pretty happy I figured how to unfreez the emergency brake and get the back whell rolling again. I think a bit of tender care will bring this puppy back to life. the engine is strong, so that is a good thing.

Well it has been almost a year since I originally posted this and it has taken that long to actually get the truck home. Unfortunatley it sat that amount of time, so I will have to drain everything. So be it. all is good and I am having fun cleaning and scrubbing. I did run into an interesting conumdrum however....I noticed that the VIN on the registration is not the same on the door. As a matter of fact, the only thing correct on the door tag is the exterior and interior color. So I have to assume the door tag is wrong. Says it is a 1971 etc.... I don't know what to do at this point. I will have to find the frame VIN and compare. that is next to impossible the disapointing part is now I don't know all the cool info that comes on the tag, and what I thought was a 390 turns out to be a 360 according to the registration. Well, hell, it is a project, sowhat the hell am I complaining about right/ Still dont' know what to do though about the registration.

Is it just me or does the door look a little newer/cleaner than the rest of the cab? The grill is a '68 style. Check the strips on the door at the windows. Are they felt fuzzies or rubber? I believe '71 are rubber and '68 are felt. I'd be inclined to think the doors been swapped. Unless somebody chimes in beforehand, when I get home I'll post a pic of where the frame VIN is.

Sorry it took so long. Car broke down and I just got home. Here's where the frame VIN is on my '70. It's in that wiped off spot on the top of the RH frame rail between the spring tower and the radiator support mount.

thank you for pointing that out. Yeah, that is the only conclusion I can come to. What had me confused was the color scheme matched the truck, so it must have been the same color and interior trim. What a coincidence.

I am a bit bummed at not having the old door tag as I really wanted to find the history. but that is life.

Regarding the VIN on the frame, thank you for pointing out where it is. I am assuming though, that the only way I can see it is when the frame is bare? It seems there is too much in the way to be able to get to it. Am I looking in the wrong spot?

thank you again for your guidance.
