Hellluuurrrrr....

Post by VanityDetailing »

Hey y'all. Figured I'd join up here, do the whole newbie-intro-thread gimmick, and embark on my venture on this forum.

My name's Evan, and I've been around cars and hot rods my whole life. I've owned 40 cars in my 32 years on this planet, and the majority of them were 1st gen (79-85) RX-7's. I've had everything from: a Mercury Tracer, to an Impala SS, to a plethora (13 total: 11 1st gens, 1 2nd gen 'vert, and 1 3rd gen track car) of RX-7's, a Maxima, two versions of my unhealthy obsession with the main character from the A-Team (the Van!), a few rat rods, a few Subaru Legacy's, and now we're here. We've got a '93 Subaru Legacy L AWD 4eat Sedan that the wife drives (265K and still runs like a top!), and I put over 1000mi/wk on my '11 VW Jetta TDI 6spd Sedan. So, why am I even posting on Fordification? Because my pride and joy... my 1977 Mercury Monarch kustom/rat rod/street cruiser/bruiser is being traded for a 1968 Ford F100 Ranger truck this weekend. I've been doing a TON of research about it, and this site has been invaluable. The previous owner of the truck swapped in an AOD tranny, which now needs a rebuild. I'm not sure if he also swapped in a 302 or not, but that's my inclination. It didn't look like a FE motor, but I could be wrong. I didn't count the valve cover bolts.

Until then, I'm ready for the hazing and helpful advice! I've been on car forums for a LONG time, and worked as a chef for the last 16 years... so I'm not one with thin skin. If I'm being a ruhtard, let me know. :D

And the reason behind my screenname, is because I have a luxury detailing business on the side. I've got a page on the facebook by the same name.

So, yeah, there ya' go. Do I have to get jumped in, now?

Looking through my computer, I guess I don't have a whole lot of pics... too focused on getting the food out, rather than taking pics of it. :(

Here's two from my tenure as the Sous Chef at Carnivale in Chicago...
PHOTO~21.JPG
PHOTO~18.JPG
And I have an affinity for smoked meats, barbecue, bacon, etc... I'll let you just read through this, to understand the method to the madness:

My genetically engineered "perfect" animal... The Pow. Half pig, half cow.

It starts with a bacon blanket...

Image

Add some fresh thyme, sea salt, black pepper, and brown sugar; and a pork tenderloin:

Image

Roll it up:

Image

Get a beef brisket, cut it in half, score it, and pound it out with a mallet, season it with Montreal Steak Seasoning:

Image

Wrap the beef brisket around the bacon tenderloin...

Image

Get a pork belly, cut it in half, and open it like a hinge:

Image

Line that bad boy with some seasoning, and more bacon strips:

Image

Then wrap the belly around the bacon beef bacon tenderloin:

Tie it with butchers twine, wrap a paper towel around it, and saran wrap it to maintain its shape:

I'll update with progress and final result pics...

So yeah, it's half pig, half cow... The Pow. Not gonna lie, it was inspired by EpicMealTime, but they never harness the power of the smoker... applewood chips, over mesquite and hickory charcoals. Here's some staggering nutritional info... this is for EACH one... They weigh about 14lbs each.

Calories: 32,955
Protein: 919.45g
Total Fat: 3,122.6g
Cholesterol: 5,347.56mg
Sodium: 12,218mg

I laugh in the face of a cardiologist.

On the smoker at 9:30am today...

Image
At noon today... after applewood, mesquite, and hickory smoking... at about a 1/3 of the way done.

Image

Image

And all done... sliced...

Image

I gotta say, it was nothing short of absolutely sublime. Everybody that was there didn't have words for it... it was just that grin and chuckle, knowing that you're eating a day's worth of calories in one serving.

Welcome!

I don't know what's more epic, the insane bacon creation or the car detailing. Either way....

You should post the bacon creation here http://www.facebook.com/pages/If-This-P ... 69?fref=ts
